Selecting a low-impact accommodation is not simply greener, it's often less expensive. You can now find many assessment and certification programs measuring the green efforts of properties. In the U.S. numerous cities and states have developed certification guidelines. The result is similar internationally with allot of countries enabling certification ratings. Search the city you're traveling to and determine if there is a country or state program for environmentally friendly accommodations. There are67 hotels listed in our directory of Environmentally Friendly Hotels and currently 15 are listed as eco-friendly. At this time 5 hotels have accomplished the online Environmental Audit and achieved the Green Eco-Leaf Rating while the other 10 properties are indicated to be eco-friendly although at this time have not made known their green-initiatives to us.
In Boston there are 52 properties where the environmental friendliness is not known and they have not yet provided us information regarding their sustainability efforts. Of the 541 MA lodging properties listed in the iStayGreen.org directory 40 are shown as being "Green". 11 Properties working hard to better our environment have been awarded the Green Eco-Leaf Rating.
